Meet The Maker
Hi! I'm Nicole! The designer and maker behind Fat Mango Creative.
I started Fat Mango Creative in January 2018 selling handmade cards on Etsy as a creative outlet from a stressful day corporate job.
After delving into the world of "handmade" I started looking into making my own earrings. I had always found it difficult to find fun, foodie, bright, colourful and quirky earrings that didn't irritate my sensitive ears.
Acrylic earrings took my fancy and not having a background in design I set about learning as much as I could about how to design them and how to make them. I kept practicing and honing my new found skill. I wanted to ensure the pieces I created not only looked good but were functional, flattering, comfortable, hypoallergenic and would stand the test of time. I also wanted to combine etching and hand painted details into the designs.
Fast forward to June 2018, I ditched the handmade cards and released my first acrylic earring collection on Etsy. At the same time I was building a supportive community of Fat Mango Friends on Instagram.
After an incredible response to my designs, in August 2018, I made the decision to close my Etsy store and open my very own website. My little biz grew from strength to strength as did my desire to turn my "hobby" into a "proper" business.
In 2020, I was able to transition into a part-time role with my corporate employer. This allowed me the much needed time to continue to grow the business.
In April 2021 despite the middle of a global pandemic, and thanks to my incredible community of Fat Mango Friends, i was able to quit my job and run Fat Mango full time.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think that this little "hobby" would turn into what it has today and I am grateful for my every growing community of foodies who love wearing my designs. It brings me so much happiness to see my pieces spread joy through colour and quirk.
